Presented by the Raleigh Chamber Music Guild and the NCMA

Docent tours of special exhibitions and the permanent collection are offered in association with most concerts and begin promptly at 2 p.m. For tour reservations call (919) 664-6820, or contact Jen Coon. All concerts conclude with a festive reception in the Education Lobby.

Aurora Musicalis
"
Sights & Sounds on Sundays Anniversary Concert: Ten Years of Art and Music”

Join us for a special celebration of the 10th anniversary of Sights and Sounds on Sundays, featuring Aurora Musicalis and the music of Handel, Dahl, and Schubert. The distinguished chamber ensemble includes several members of the North Carolina Symphony, including violinist and concertmaster Brian Reagin, violinist Rebekah Binford, cellist Elizabeth Beilman, and clarinetist Jimmy Gilmore. The group also features acclaimed pianist Kari Miller.

Lenoir Saxophone Ensemble
"French Impressions"

Lenoir Sax is a talented quartet of saxophone players that features Robert George on soprano sax, David Kirby on alto, Alan Moore on tenor, and Mike Myers on baritone. They love sharing the different colors of this remarkable instrument and are especially dedicated to performing in schools and for underserved audiences. The ensemble will perform a special program titled “French Impressions: Observing the Origin of the Saxophone in France” in their first concert at the NCMA.

Ciompi Quartet with Pianist Randall Love
Join the Triangle's most acclaimed string quartet for an afternoon of Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and more in a special program titled Form, Content, Aesthetic: The Long Shadow of Romanticism. The Duke University-based ensemble features Eric Pritchard on violin, Hsiao-Mei Ku on violin, Jonathan Bagg on viola, and Fred Raimi on cello. Randall Love, director of performance for Duke's Department of Music, sits in on piano.

February 8
Elena Martin/José Meliton Piano Duo
"Two Piano Music from Spain"
Duo pianists Elena Martin and José Meliton are emerging masters of Spanish two-piano music. Both hold the Titulo Superior de Piano from the Real Conservatorio Superior de Musica de Madrid and have obtained master's degrees from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. John Salmon of American Music Teachers Magazine writes that Martin and Meliton play "in perfect synchronization and with hypnotic poetry...sharply chiseled refinement, fierce commitment, and palpable charisma."

April 26
New@WFU

The final concert of the 2008–9 season features an exciting new ensemble from Wake Forest University comprising violinist Jacqui Carrasco, pianist Louis Goldstein, and percussionist John Beck. This accomplished and innovative trio will present a program titled Maverick and California-born inspired by the exhibition Modern American Paintings from the Bequest of Fannie and Alan Leslie, featuring powerful works by composers John Cage, Steven Mackey, and Lou Harrison.

Toppin/Heid/Holley

More Than a Spiritual
Louise Toppin, David Heid, and Timothy Holley present Robert Owens’s Heart on the Wall, songs for soprano and piano based on poems by Langston Hughes, and songs by Margaret Bonds and H. T. Burleigh, among others.
